On September 3, 2025, around 9:30 a.m., deputies responded to a welfare check at a home on the 1400 block of Royal Vista Drive in Ramona. The individual retreated inside and an audible weapon being racked was heard. Deputies pulled back and called in SWAT and negotiators. Hanson Elementary School was evacuated out of caution. After nearly nine hours of attempted contact, SWAT entered the residence around 6:30 p.m. and found the individual unresponsive in a closet. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
