Event : Driver killed by police chase crash

OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/05/2025 at approximately 2:15 a.m., an Alexandria Police Department officer attempted to stop a vehicle. The driver continued driving away while police pursued. The pursuit entered the City of Anderson at a high rate of speed.
The fleeing vehicle lost control near the intersection of Washington Street and North Park Avenue. The vehicle struck a utility pole and crashed into two homes. Emergency responders located multiple occupants inside the wreckage.
Landon Shaffer, 17, of Marion, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Preston Jett, 20, of Marion, also died. A third occupant was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The Anderson Police Department assumed responsibility for investigating the fatal crash. Authorities continue to investigate the pursuit and collision.
