OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On September 27, 2025, a 24-year-old man opened fire on the grounds of Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake. Spokane County deputies engaged and returned fire. The man retreated toward his vehicle, where he was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Spokane County Medical Examiner ruled the death a suicide. The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is conducting the investigation.
