On 09/25/2025, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a home on Auburn Road in Peru in connection with a sexual assault investigation. The 46-year-old man barricaded himself inside, poured gasoline around the residence, and threatened suicide. After hours of failed negotiations, police entered the home and found him dead. No other injuries were reported. The Maine Attorney General’s Office and Chief Medical Examiner are investigating.

SWAT units and negotiators were deployed, and attempts were made to communicate for several hours. A drone was later sent into the home, where the man was observed with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Tactical officers confirmed his death.

In the early hours of 09/25/2025 (shortly after 2:00 a.m.), Chattanooga police officers answered a burglary at a hemp/vape store (Dr. Wonderstone’s Organic Cannabis Farm) in the Hixson area. Two suspects broke into the store by smashing glass and attempting to force entry. One suspect, identified as Kevin Barnes, attempted to flee in a vehicle. As he drove off, the vehicle struck a police car, nearly colliding with two officers. In response, officers opened fire, fatally wounding Barnes in the driver’s seat. The vehicle later crashed into a tree. The passenger fled on foot. Two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave per department policy. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is leading the investigation.

The driver refused to stop and police escalated a chase along Cobb Parkway near Truist Park. Traffic forced the vehicle to slow, and a trooper blocked it from the front. As troopers approached, the driver produced a gun and fatally shot himself. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.
