On 09/12/2025, Dawson County deputies attempted a traffic stop on 33-year-old Rosendo Gaitan Jr. after reports he was experiencing a mental episode. Deputies allege that he did not stop, and a pursuit ensued. After the vehicle came to a stop, Gaitan exited with a gun and fired toward deputies. An officer opened fire and killed him.
