OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On September 14, 2025, deputies from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a man shoplifting while carrying a machete. Deputies located 28-year-old Travis Wade Berrett near 10900 East Briarwood Avenue, matching the suspect description. Deputies stated that Berrett was armed with both a machete and a knife and ignored commands to drop the weapons. Officers first attempted to subdue him with tasers, which were ineffective. When Berrett continued moving toward them, deputies opened fire, striking and killing him. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the incident.
