On 09/16/2025, Wilmington Police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a driver who had outstanding warrants. The driver refused to stop, and police escalated a chase northbound on Interstate 95. Delaware State Police joined the pursuit. The vehicle exited at Marsh Road, lost control near Edgemoor Road, struck a utility pole and fence, and left the roadway. A 4-month-old boy, Maurice Brown, Jr., was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Nemours Children’s Hospital, where he died. The driver was critically injured, and two other passengers, a 32-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl, sustained serious injuries.

On 09/11/2025, Independence police responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in the 2300 block of South Arlington Avenue. Dustan K. Martin, 53, reportedly fired shots at his brother, who was uninjured, before barricading himself inside. SWAT was deployed, and officers detected the smell of natural gas and shut off the supply. Minutes later, the house exploded. Martin was found dead inside with a gunshot wound to the head.

On September 11, 2025, El Monte police responded to a business on Garvey Avenue following reports of a domestic violence incident. Officers located a vehicle connected to the call. Police stated that the vehicle driven by 26-year-old Juan Martin Avila Mercado collided with police vehicles. Under unclear circumstances, an officer opened fire, killing Mercado. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting.
