On September 26, 2023, Indianapolis police pursued a Dodge Challenger that was traveling at speeds exceeding 140 mph on Interstate 70 near Shadeland Avenue. The vehicle collided with another car during the chase, killing three people. Two victims were inside the Challenger, and the third victim was the driver of the other vehicle. The driver of the Challenger survived with minor injuries. He was later sentenced to two years in prison in 2025 for his role in the deadly pursuit.
