On 05/31/2023, Florida Highway Patrol attempted to stop a Dodge Challenger traveling more than 115 miles per hour on Interstate 10 in Walton County. The driver refused to stop, and officers escalated a chase. The vehicle crossed the median and crashed into a tractor-trailer traveling in the opposite direction. A 4-year-old child inside the car was killed, and two adult passengers were injured. Police later confirmed the vehicle had been fleeing law enforcement prior to the crash.
