On October 20, 2025, deputies with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of an attack with a deadly weapon at the Magnolia Shopping Center in Goleta. Deputies confronted a male inside Ralph’s grocery store who was reportedly assaulting another person. During the encounter, deputies opened fire, killing the man at the scene. The shopping center was shut down temporarily as investigators processed the area. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation.
