On April 1, 2021, a high-speed pursuit involving the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Police Department occurred on the 405 and 118 freeways in Sherman Oaks. The driver of a Honda, fleeing police at speeds reaching 117 miles per hour, entered the wrong lanes of traffic and crashed head-on into a Subaru. The driver of the Honda was fatally injured, and the bystander in the Subaru survived.
