On April 2, 2021, deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office pursued a blue Chevrolet driven by 38-year-old Daniel Peak at speeds up to 90 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone. The chase continued onto Highway 60 near the Blythe Ferry boat ramp, where the vehicle left the roadway and plunged into the Tennessee River. The passenger, 36-year-old Dewleen Self of McCaysville, Georgia, drowned after the vehicle overturned in the water. The driver was taken into custody.
