NARRATIVE:
On 04/13/2021 shortly after 4:00 a.m., a 14-year-old boy was driving a stolen vehicle in Toms River with another 14-year-old boy as his passenger. Because both children were juveniles, authorities withheld their names from public release.

Toms River police encountered the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. Police pursued when the driver continued away. During the pursuit, the vehicle traveled at high speed through Toms River before the 14-year-old driver lost control on Hooper Avenue near Indian Hill Road.

The vehicle left the roadway and crashed with sufficient force to kill both teenagers. Police and emergency personnel responded, but both 14-year-old boys were pronounced dead. No additional fatalities were reported.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and Toms River Police Department investigated the fatal crash. The boys' identities remained protected because of their ages, and the officers involved in the pursuit were not publicly identified in the reporting I located.
