OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On April 23, 2021, at approximately 1:15 a.m., officers with the Ontario Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation near South Grove Avenue. The driver refused to stop and accelerated through city streets, initiating a pursuit. During the chase, the driver rammed at least three patrol cars, prompting officers to open fire at the intersection of South Grove Avenue and East Philadelphia Street. The man was struck and killed at the scene. A female passenger in the vehicle was detained on an unrelated warrant. No officers were injured. The Ontario Police Department and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department are conducting a joint investigation into the fatal shooting.
