On October 23, 2025, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police fatally shot a man after a series of violent crimes in northwest Charlotte. Around 4 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire on North Hoskins Road near Brookshire Boulevard, where two people were found wounded—one fatally and one in critical condition. Shortly afterward, police said the same man committed a home invasion and kidnapped a woman, forcing her into a vehicle and fleeing. Officers pursued the suspect, who fired at patrol cars during the chase. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed at Freedom Drive and Morehead Street. The man ran from the car and continued firing at officers, who opened fire and killed him. The kidnapped woman escaped safely. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting. The man was identified by police as 28-year-old Joseph Andrade.
