OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On October 23, 2025, officers with the Temple Police Department encountered a man walking on private property near the 1200 block of West Avenue G. When approached, the man ran toward the railroad tracks. Officers pursued him and reported that he held an object resembling a knife. The man turned toward the officers and said he would kill them. He reportedly advanced toward police, and officers opened fire. The man was later found to have been holding two mechanical pencils, not a knife. He was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead at 10:40 p.m. The Texas Rangers are conducting the investigation, and both officers were placed on administrative leave with pay.
