On October 24, 2025, officers with the Smyrna Police Department attempted a felony traffic stop around 6 a.m. on McLinden Avenue near Concord Road involving a reportedly stolen U-Haul truck. The driver, identified as 46-year-old Darrick Desawn Rooks of Marietta, was found dead inside the vehicle from a gunshot wound. Investigators determined the wound was self-inflicted. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation.
