On March 10, 2021, multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and Columbus Police Department, were involved in a pursuit of a man who had fired shots during the chase. The pursuit ended near County Road 450 North in Bartholomew County, where the individual was confronted by an Indiana State Police SWAT team. After refusing to comply with commands and continuing to threaten officers, the man was shot and killed by SWAT personnel. The Indiana State Police confirmed the shooting and began an investigation into the use of deadly force.
