OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On October 26, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers from the Haines City Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a pickup truck lacking a license tag and outfitted with dark window tints in the area of Avenue I and 12th Street N. The driver did not stop. The pickup reversed toward and nearly struck a patrol vehicle, then accelerated forward toward an officer positioned in front of the vehicle. An officer fired his weapon, striking Louivens Ceus, 24, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck was believed to be stolen and spray-painted black; a meth pipe and stolen medical marijuana were reportedly found. The two officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave and the Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting.
