OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On October 26, 2025, Detroit Police officers attempted to stop a black SUV for speeding, dark window tint, and an obscured license plate near Van Dyke and 8 Mile Road. The driver did not stop. Officers used pepper spray when she refused to exit the vehicle, and she drove away. Police later located the SUV near Sherwood Street and 7 Mile Road, where officers boxed it in. The driver moved the vehicle toward an officer, and police opened fire, striking her multiple times. She was transported to a hospital and later died. Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said the department’s policy violations during the incident are under review.
