On Sunday, October 26, 2025, deputies from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office responded to a “disorderly complaint” around 3 p.m. along State Route 180, approximately half-mile west of Zane Trace High School near Chillicothe, Ohio. Officials located 58-year-old Bryan Rothe at his residence. Deputies attempted to arrest him for assault, and during the arrest encounter the situation escalated into gunfire. Rothe was shot on the scene and later died of his injuries.The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has taken over the investigation.
