OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 10/27/2025, deputies from the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office discovered the bodies of Ted Matthew Chavis, 53, and Joann Nicole Chavis, 46, at their home in Red Springs, North Carolina. The couple’s 17-year-old foster child, identified as D.P., was named the primary suspect. Investigators determined the victims had been stabbed to death. Later that evening, law enforcement located D.P. near the Boys & Girls Homes campus in Lake Waccamaw, approximately 90 miles away. As officers closed in, D.P. died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
