OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Denver PD were called to the 2300 block of West Cedar Avenue. DPD said officers responded to reports of domestic violence just before 8 p.m.A domestic fight was in progress with an adult male throwing a woman to the ground and assaulting a teenage boy. Police said the man was very agitated and police tasered him. He walked toward them and they shot and killed him. The object in his hand that had caused officers to fear for their lives had been a felt pen. Both shooter officers were cleared by the DA. The shooter officer had yelled at a woman and child bystander to move out of the way when she began shooting and luckily missed the bystanders. Cole's wife had begged police not to shoot as he was only drunk and not a dangerous person. Cole's blood alcohol level had been 0.255. He was intoxicated and causing a disturbance but had been unarmed and no threat to anyone throughout the events.
