Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased female victim, identified as Justin Davidson's mother. Justin Davidson fled the scene and carried out a series of armed carjackings and shootings. Two civilians were killed during the incident: one was fatally shot during an armed carjacking, and another was killed in a separate confrontation with Davidson. Detroit PD stopped a vehicle for failure to activate turn signal. It is unknown what transpired but the officer fired a taser and was hanging out of the vehicle that tried to leave when the officer fired a shot and killed the unidentified person.

Police felt two men may have been unlawfully entering vehicles when they began chasing them. The chase ended when the vehicle drove into a body of water and the men drowned. The driver was 16 years old and due to age, his name was not released. The passenger who also died was Robert Wade Norwood, 21.
