Spokane Police received a call about a suicidal man in mental health crisis, found him, allege he held 2 guns and shot and killed him. It does not appear that mental health crisis intervention was attempted.

Of the nine officers who all fired bullets into the man, this was Officer Johnson’s fourth shooting. He was cleared for two shootings and has 2 more under investigation. His shootings were in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024 so far. Officer Brunner is currently also under investigation for driving twice the speed limit and causing a crash that injured a couple. He was expected to lose his law enforcement certification before this shooting. Officer Chris Johnson had previously killed Robert Bradley.

Police received a call that Lisa Haight had allegedly broken into a residence. Police chased her, found her in a nearby house and after a physical fight, they shot and killed her. Police allege that she “had a knife.” Police claim she had also stabbed and injured someone just prior to the home entries. Two off-duty officers were working security when they said a “disturbance” broke out over a gun when the off-duty police shot and killed 26-year-old Fernando Rodriguez Juarez and 28-year-old Jonathan Hernandez by firing into a moving vehicle, killing them both. It is unclear whether either of them had represented a danger to police or bystanders. The officers were cleared by the police chief.

On 02/03/2024, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to a disturbance call in downtown Los Angeles.According to a 911 call reporting the incident, the caller described Jason Lee Maccani as "a fucking homeless dude" who was "on some shit," "very dangerous," and "kind of like tweaking out."
The man was later identified as Jason Lee Maccani, 36. Police initially reported that Maccani was carrying a stick, which scratched an officer during the confrontation. After attempting an undisclosed less-lethal method, likely a taser, officers shot and killed Maccani.

Further investigation revealed that the object in Maccani's possession was a plastic fork, not a stick as initially described. He had been unarmed and there is no report that he had been violent. Despite this, LAPD Officer Caleb Garcia-Alamilla fired the fatal shot. Officer Caleb Garcia-Alamilla remains under investigation for the February 3, 2024, shooting of Jason Lee Maccani. The California Department of Justice's Office of the Attorney General lists this case as "Under Investigation." The Los Angeles Police Department's specialized Force Investigation Division is also conducting an internal review. The findings will be evaluated by the Chief of Police, the Board of Police Commissioners, and the Office of the Inspector General to determine compliance with LAPD policies and procedures.

A man and woman were heard arguing and police were called. Police allege they heard gunfire. The woman left the home safely and police brought SWAT that staged a standoff. Police allege the man came out of the home with a long gun. They shot and killed him.

On February 3, 2024, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Carol Stream police responded to a domestic violence call at the Villagebrook Apartments. Officers spoke with the alleged victim, who reported a physical altercation with 30-year-old Isaac Goodlow, resulting in visible injuries. She provided consent for officers to enter the apartment, expressing concern for her dog and belongings left inside.

After approximately 50 minutes of attempts to contact Goodlow, officers obtained a key from the apartment manager and entered the unit. Upon opening the bedroom door, officers encountered Goodlow, who was shot once in the chest. Officers immediately called for paramedics and began administering aid. Goodlow was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His family contested the need for the shooting, stating he had never been violent and that police had “shot him down like a dog.”

Somerville PD traffic stopped John Baldwin for a brake light violation. It is unknown what transpired, but he allegedly flew into a rage and rammed the police vehicle with a K9 inside, then fled to a home and locked himself in. Police and SWAT arrived and standoff and sued. Extensive gunfire from a shootout with police as heard on dash cam video. The house quickly interrupted in flames and was totally destroyed. Baldwin was found dead from gunshot wounds inside.

Pecos County deputies tried to stop a vehicle driven by Mark Anthony Lopez but he would not stop. Deputies escalated a chase that ended when Lopez tried to U-turn while being chased and was hit head-on by a semi. He died at the scene. The driver of the semi had minor injuries.

On February 2, 2024, at approximately 5 a.m., Plantation Police Department officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a Mobil gas station located at 10261 W. Broward Blvd in Plantation, Florida. A 31-year-old woman sought refuge inside the gas station to escape her boyfriend, identified as 30-year-old Roshod Graham of Jacksonville. Graham used his vehicle to ram the gas station's doors multiple times in an attempt to reach the woman.

Upon officers' arrival, Graham fled.Police escalated a chase into Lauderhill during which, Graham allegedly rammed a police vehicle. The pursuit ended when Graham's car became inoperative after hitting a median in the 1600 block of NW 31st Avenue. Graham exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Officers allege that Graham resisted arrest and attempted to forcibly take an officer's firearm. An unknown number of officers opened fire, striking Graham.

EMS transported Graham to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The names of the officers involved have not been released. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.

On February 2, 2024, at approximately 3 a.m., Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Trooper Zachary Fink, 26, pursued a vehicle on Interstate 95 near Crosstown Parkway in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The driver was speeding and refused to stop. Trooper Fink attempted a U-turn to continue the pursuit and collided with an oncoming semi-truck driven by 55-year-old Arsenio Mas of Homestead, Florida. On February 1, 2024, Sgt. Michael Ewald of the Maricopa Police Department initiated a pursuit of a motorcycle after observing the rider, Demetrius Catus, speeding at approximately 80 mph in a 35 mph zone. Catus, who appeared unsteady while riding, fled from the officer after briefly stopping at an intersection. The pursuit intensified as Catus accelerated to speeds of up to 100 mph. As the chase continued, Catus lost control of the motorcycle while navigating a curve on North John Wayne Parkway near North Alterra Parkway. The crash occurred at around 3:09 a.m., resulting in Catus suffering fatal injuries, including a severe head injury and a broken neck. Despite the officer’s attempt to assist immediately, Catus was pronounced dead at the scene. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the ongoing investigation into the crash.

Police chased Bradley David Atwell for an assault last month. Atwell was known to be vulnerable and possibly suicidal. Police used a drone and aggressively chased him. He committed suicide under police duress. The chase was undertaken for a previous assault charge only.

On 02/01/2024, the Arroyo Grande Police Department responded to reports of gunshots at the senior center located at 241 N. Courtland Street in Arroyo Grande, California. Upon arrival, officers discovered the apartment manager deceased from gunshot wounds. Resident David Falcon, 66, was later found locked inside an apartment unit. Police deployed drones and established a standoff.

During the standoff, Falcon reportedly committed suicide. Reports indicate that the dispute stemmed from Falcon’s allegations that the apartment manager had unlawfully entered his apartment and physically harmed his cat, leading to extensive veterinary care. Falcon is alleged to have shot the manager following this confrontation. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and Falcon’s death are ongoing and are being conducted by the Arroyo Grande Police Department and independent oversight agencies.

On 02/01/2024, 31-year-old Melvin Kenneth Jay Jr. was killed during an encounter with Officer Braxton Shelton of the Prince George County Police Department at the Windham Creek Apartments in Suitland, Maryland. Officers were investigating a reported burglary when they confronted Jay.

Officer Braxton Shelton kicked in the door, stormed the private home of Mr. Jay with gun drawn, found Melvin Jay in his kitchen moving toward his kitchen sink when the officer screamed "show me your motherfucking hands!" and shot and killed him. Police won't comment but state that there was a gun in Melvin Jay's jacket pocket. The gun was not used and this seems an irrelevant defense because there was no burglary and no threat to police.

On January 31, 2024, Stamford Police Department officers located Lawrence Byrd on Canal Street following an alert from Ramapo police in New York. Temple PD were sent to the 900 block of South 9th Street in Temple for a report of a suicidal man with a gun. Hartley allegedly had a gun and locked himself into a mobile home with police arrived. Police brought a drone and escalated a standoff. Hartley under pressure allegedly fired a shot at a drone that appeared at his window. Police claim he pointed a gun or fired a shot at an officer also. Police shot and killed him through the window of his home while he was inside. There is no record of any mental health help having been sent instead of a militarized standoff that led to his predictable death.
