On 03/24/2021, 34-year-old Joshua James Gloria of Oakland was shot and killed by Fremont Police Officer Brian Burch following a pursuit that began after police identified a stolen vehicle linked to an armed robbery. The chase ended on Highway 84 west of Interstate 880 when officers blocked the car, and Gloria allegedly attempted to ram a police vehicle. Officer Burch opened fire, fatally striking him.
