On 08/05/2023, San Antonio Police Department officers attempted to stop Mario Perez after receiving a report that he had assaulted another person. Perez continued driving away, and officers pursued him onto Loop 410 near Highway 90. During the pursuit, Perez drove into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a pickup truck. He died at the scene. The pickup driver suffered minor injuries. Authorities continued investigating the pursuit and fatal crash.
