On 09/30/2021, Zavala County deputies attempted to stop a white Chevrolet Camaro driven by 19-year-old TikTok star Gabriel Salazar, known online as “gabenotbabe.” Police escalated a high-speed chase northbound on U.S. Highway 83 near La Pryor. During the pursuit, the Camaro veered off the road, hit trees, and burst into flames. Salazar and three passengers, Miguel Arroyo, Jose Molina-Lara, and Sergio Espinoza, were all killed at the scene. Authorities reported that the chase began after a traffic stop attempt in Crystal City. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating.
