On 09/30/2021, 19-year-old Gabriel Salazar led Zavala County deputies on a high-speed pursuit northbound on U.S. Highway 83. The vehicle crashed into trees and caught fire near La Pryor. Passenger Miguel Arroyo was among the three others killed in the fiery wreck. The crash followed an attempted traffic stop by Crystal City police.
