On 09/30/2021, a pursuit initiated by Crystal City police continued through Zavala County and ended in a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 83 near La Pryor. The Chevrolet Camaro driven by 19-year-old Gabriel Salazar left the roadway, struck several trees, and burst into flames. Passenger Sergio Espinoza was killed along with Salazar and two other passengers. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.
