On 05/27/2021, police in Bethel Township and Huber Heights pursued a vehicle along State Route 202. Police allege that they called off the chase mere moments before the fleeing vehicle collided with another car at the intersection of State Route 202 and U.S. Highway 40. The impact killed 22-year-old bystander Chelsey Vollmer and injured her one-year-old daughter, who survived. A roadside memorial of flowers and stuffed animals now marks where Vollmer’s car came to rest.
