OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On June 10, 2021, the Omaha Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for expired plates around 8 p.m. in north Omaha. The driver, later identified as Nigel Phillips, crashed his vehicle near 34th Street and Laurel Avenue, then fled on foot. Officers chased him, established a perimeter, and later found him with a gun. The officer at the scene reported that Phillips shot himself.
