On June 16, 2021, as a high-speed pursuit by the Georgia State Patrol passed through downtown Savannah, a vehicle fleeing from troopers struck 56-year-old Stephen Milton while he was crossing Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at 38th Street. Milton was killed in what his family contends was the result of aggressive pursuit tactics through a pedestrian area.
