OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/28/2021, security forces from Vandenberg Space Force Base attempted to stop a 47-year-old man from Lompoc, who they say was driving erratically and repeatedly weaving across lanes along northbound Highway 1. The man refused to yield and fled at high speed. The chase ended around 9:45 p.m. when his GMC Denali failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, plunged off an embankment and rolled onto its roof. Officers were unable to open the doors initially due to extensive damage, and the driver was extracted at approximately 10:40 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.
