OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/29/2021, police escalated a chase after a juvenile driver refused to stop during an attempted traffic stop in Lawrence. Officers pursued the vehicle for about 15 minutes at very high speed until it entered Boone County. No PIT maneuvers were reported. The vehicle crashed into a tree on State Road 32 near County Road 650 East. A 13-year-old front-seat passenger died from crash injuries, and four other juveniles were transported to hospitals.
