On 12/10/2025, Chicago police officers were investigating a reported stolen vehicle on the city’s North Side in the West Ridge neighborhood. During the investigation, officers encountered Roberto Calvario Jr., age 20, who was inside another vehicle that arrived at the scene. Police stated officers ordered Calvario to exit the vehicle. Under circumstances that remain disputed and under investigation, an officer fired a single shot, striking Calvario. He was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police reported that a woman who was inside the vehicle was taken into custody. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting, and the involved officer was placed on administrative duty.
