OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/25/2021, Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of a man asleep in the driver’s seat of a car stopped at a traffic signal. Officers approached the vehicle and observed a firearm on the driver’s person. As the vehicle began to move after Gilmore awoke, an officer fired multiple rounds into the car, striking and fatally wounding Gilmore. He was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.
