On 12/25/2021, Gaudencio Gerardo Luna-Vasquez, 52, died when the vehicle he was riding in crashed into a tree while fleeing U.S. Border Patrol agents in eastern San Diego County. The driver, Kevin Antonio Quevedo-Moncada, was driving at high speeds and lost control during the pursuit off Otay Lakes Road after Border Patrol attempted to stop the vehicle. Luna-Vasquez, one of three people in the car, died at the scene. Two other passengers were critically injured. Quevedo-Moncada later pleaded guilty to federal charges and was sentenced to over four years in prison.
