On 01/18/2021, St. Clair County sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported domestic altercation at a residence on Pepper Road in Cropwell. According to authorities, deputies encountered Kevin Darion Wells during the response. Police said Wells was holding a handgun and, during the encounter, a deputy fired his weapon, striking Wells. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting was placed under investigation, and no criminal charges against the deputy were announced at the time of reporting.
