On 01/29/2021, law enforcement responded to reports of a domestic assault involving a firearm in La Quinta. Authorities reported that Javier Magdaleno left the scene in a vehicle and officers escalated a pursuit. The pursuit ended after the vehicle crashed near Jefferson Street and Avenue 48. Police stated that during the encounter that followed, Magdaleno obtained a rifle. Officers opened fire and shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting was placed under investigation, and no criminal charges against officers were announced at the time of reporting.
