On 01/31/2021, California Highway Patrol officers were responding to a traffic collision along Interstate 80 near Dixon Avenue. According to authorities, officers observed a vehicle stopped on the shoulder with a damaged rear window and attempted to speak with the driver, identified as Karl Walker. Police reported that during the interaction, Walker produced a firearm and threatened an officer. Officers opened fire and Walker was shot and killed at the scene.
