On 02/02/2021, East Peoria police responded around 12:50 a.m. to a reported domestic violence incident elsewhere in the city in which a woman and a girl were injured. Joshua Crites left before officers arrived. Police located his vehicle a short time later in the CVS parking lot at 2540 E. Washington St. During the encounter, Crites stabbed Officer Jeffrey Bieber multiple times. Police opened fire and killed Crites at the scene. Illinois State Police took over the investigation, which was reported as ongoing at the time.
