On 03/19/2021, Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of a man armed with a hammer and a hatchet near Bonnie Brae Street in the Westlake district. Officers encountered Samuel Ponce at the location. During the encounter, an altercation occurred between Ponce and responding officers.
