Deputies and assisting officers found two males who had been stabbed inside. An individual allegedly charged at deputies from a bedroom while screaming and holding a large knife. Deputies and officers opened fire, shooting and killing the person at the scene. The two stabbing victims, a 16-year-old boy and a 39-year-old man, were hospitalized and are expected to recover. In the early morning hours of July 3, 2025, at approximately 1:10 a.m., Atlanta Police SWAT responded to a home on Burbank Drive SW in southwest Atlanta after a woman and a child escaped the residence and reported that a man inside was armed and barricaded. Officers quickly established a tight perimeter and initiated a full tactical response. The scene was militarized within minutes. Armored BearCat vehicles were positioned. High-intensity tactical lights illuminated the home and surrounding area, and loudspeakers were used to broadcast repeated commands to surrender.

During the foot pursuit, a Cedar Hill officer opened fire and fatally shot the individual. It is unknown what prompted the officer to fire lethal shots or whether the man was armed or not. The Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit and the Dallas County Public Integrity Division are investigating.

On July 3, 2025, just before 7:40 a.m., Lake Charles Police responded to a 911 call reporting a man pointing a gun at passing vehicles on 12th Street. The first officer on scene reported being shot at multiple times as she exited her patrol vehicle. She returned fire, and the man fled on foot into a residential area.
Officers then set up a perimeter and tracked the man to a nearby shed. He emerged from hiding, brandished a firearm, and ran toward SWAT officers while continuing to fire. SWAT officers returned fire, striking and disabling him. He was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. Investigators found a stolen handgun at the scene.
No officers were injured during the incident. Six officers have been placed on administrative leave following department policy. Louisiana State Police detectives have taken over the investigation and continue to reconstruct the events using command logs, shell casings, recovered firearms, and body/dash camera footage.

Around 12:10 a.m., officers from the Zillah and Granger Police Departments responded to a call about a man who had entered a neighbor’s home without permission. Police said the man, later identified as Pedro Leal, refused to leave the home. Negotiators attempted to de-escalate the situation for over an hour. Officers eventually entered the house and a confrontation occurred. Leal was reportedly injured during the use of force, though no firearms were used. He was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to a regional trauma center, where he later died. The Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit is conducting an investigation.

On 06/20/2025, Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance involving an armed man on St. John Street in Winnfield. The man barricaded himself inside a home and fired shots during negotiations. When he exited the residence holding a handgun, deputies shot him. He was transported to a hospital and died from his injuries on 07/02/2025. The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is investigating the incident.

Police alleged no pursuit was initiated, but the vehicle fleeing from the police stop immediately struck and T-boned another vehicle in the 1300 block of 10th Avenue North. The victim’s vehicle went into a ravine and caught fire, killing Craig Arthur Hennen.

Deputies attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant on John Franklin Carter. Carter fled in a vehicle, then got out holding what appeared to be a handgun and stated he would make the officers shoot him. Carter advanced toward deputies. A deputy fired and struck Carter. The weapon was later determined to be an airsoft pistol. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene. The Texas Rangers are investigating.

Daquona Verdale Peede was wanted for murder and fled from Georgia State Patrol on I-75 near mile marker 37. Troopers performed a PIT maneuver to stop his vehicle. As officers approached, Peede shot himself. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the incident.

On July 2, 2025, around 9:06 p.m., Elmhurst police pursued a vehicle connected to a retail theft. The driver stopped and fled on foot into northbound lanes of Interstate 294, where they were struck by a passing vehicle and killed. Illinois State Police are investigating.
