On 03/19/2021, Chattanooga police responded shortly after 10 a.m. to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence on Premium Drive. The reporting party told police that Mykel Dexter Jenkins was destroying property inside the home. When officers arrived, they encountered Jenkins, who police described as behaving erratically. During the encounter, Jenkins produced an object fashioned to look and function as a knife. Officers fired their weapons, shooting and killing Jenkins at the scene. The shooting was investigated as an officer-involved killing. No criminal charges were filed against the officers.
