OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 03/24/2021, Forest Park police responded to a call reporting that a man had entered a Jimmy John’s restaurant and waved a gun in the air. Officers located Tony Smith lying on a sidewalk nearby. As officers approached and made physical contact with Smith, police said he turned toward an officer and raised a gun toward the officer’s face. Officers fired their weapons, killing Smith at the scene. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the killing and ruled the use of deadly force justified. No criminal charges were filed against the officers.
