OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 03/25/2021, a Calumet City police officer stopped Alvin Burrage for a traffic violation involving a stop sign and broken taillights. After Burrage exited the vehicle, police said he reached back inside the car and retrieved a handgun. According to the officer, Burrage began raising the gun in the officer’s direction. The officer fired, striking Burrage. Burrage was transported to a hospital, where he died more than a week later from his injuries. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the killing and cleared the officer. No criminal charges were filed.
