On 03/25/2021, Kansas City police officers located Malcolm D. Johnson while attempting to arrest him in the area of Prospect Avenue. During the encounter, Johnson struggled with officers. Police fired their weapons, killing Johnson at the scene. A special prosecutor later reviewed the killing and ruled the use of deadly force justified. Johnson’s family disputed the police account and filed a civil lawsuit alleging excessive force and wrongful death. No criminal charges were filed against the officers.
