OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 03/28/2021, Lompoc police responded to reports of a person walking in public with a gun. Officers located Krys Brandon Ruiz, who was wearing a mask. Police said Ruiz did not comply with commands and ran on foot. While officers searched the area, police reported that Ruiz ran toward them holding a knife. Officers fired their weapons, killing Ruiz at the scene. The Santa Barbara County District Attorney reviewed the killing and ruled the use of deadly force justified. No criminal charges were filed against the officers.
