On January 15, 2021, El Paso Police Department officers responded to reports of a man firing a gun near Interstate 10 and along Thunderstorm Drive. Several children managed to escape, but the man found a 7-year-old boy hiding in a closet and refused to release him. The man claimed he was armed with multiple guns and would not surrender. After negotiations, the standoff ended around 10:30 p.m. when the man took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot.

On December 22, 2020, Trooper Christopher Baldner stopped an SUV driven by Tristan Goods for speeding on the New York State Thruway in Ulster County. During the traffic stop, Baldner allegedly sprayed pepper spray into the vehicle, prompting Goods to drive away. Police escalated a chase on the Thruway at high speed. Baldner rammed the family’s SUV twice with his patrol vehicle, causing it to overturn several times. Eleven-year-old passenger Monica Goods was ejected from the vehicle and killed. On January 13, 2021, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) troopers and Oklahoma City Police Department officers escalated a chase of a stolen Lincoln Navigator up to 115 mph. The vehicle was driven by 17-year-old Vinnie Hamlet, the twin brother of Chris Hamlet, with Chris and a 17-year-old female passenger. Troopers used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver, directly causing the SUV to flip multiple times and land in a field near Southwest 119th Street and South Meridian Avenue. Vinnie Hamlet was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Chris Hamlet and the female passenger sustained injuries but survived.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol conducted an internal self-investigation. The findings were presented to the District Attorney's Office, which determined that the deadly pursuit was justified.

On 01/12/2021 just after midnight, Phoenix police officers attempted a traffic stop near Interstate 10 and Baseline Road. Police said the vehicle did not stop and was later located with assistance from a police helicopter near the Arizona Grand Resort area. Antonio Carbajal exited the vehicle and continued running. Officers caught up with him near Arizona Grand Parkway. Police stated that Carbajal had a handgun and that a physical struggle occurred over the weapon. On January 11, 2021, at approximately 5:16 p.m., Butler County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence report in the 6800 block of Yoakum Court at the Lakota Pointe Townhomes in Liberty Township. Junius Thomas, had allegedly kicked in the door of a residence, prompting the female occupant to flee and call 911. Upon arrival, deputies found Thomas armed and "extremely agitated." THE SWAT team was deployed. SWAT officers used an armored vehicle to breach the door. Thomas then appeared in the doorway and raised a gun toward the officers, at which point Deputy Ricky Phillips shot and killed Thomas. A subsequent autopsy revealed the presence of methamphetamine in Thomas's system. Four months later, Officer Phillips shot and injured someone during arrest again. A Butler County grand jury reviewed both incidents and declined to issue an indictment, determining that the use of force was justified.

The incident involved a husband, his wife, their two young children, and the husband’s parents. Police reported that the husband’s father was seriously injured and treated by medical personnel. Officers stated that the wife and children were inside the home with Brian Williams. On January 9, 2021, at approximately 9:41 p.m., deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call at 32 Janice Drive in Pembroke. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with 46-year-old Matthew Oxendine, who was inside a vehicle.

Oxendine had set fire to the interior of the vehicle. He made statements about bleeding out and threatened police. A SWAT team was assembled to assist in negotiations. At approximately 11:51 p.m., Oxendine allegedly pointed what appeared to be a firearm at the SWAT team. Deputies opened fire, killing him.

The vehicle fire was extinguished, and Oxendine was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation revealed that the object Oxendine pointed at deputies was a toy gun with a wooden stock. He had been unarmed.

On January 9, 2021, 46-year-old Herbert Nixon Flores, wanted for the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend Karen Ruiz in Pacoima, California, was located by law enforcement in Dallas, Texas. As officers approached him in the 2100 block of Amherst Avenue, Flores shot and killed himself.

On 01/08/2021 at approximately 2 p.m., White County sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant at a residence on Woodland Trail in Sparta related to an incident the previous day involving a traffic stop. According to authorities, when deputies entered the home, Charles Edward Williams exited through the back of the residence. Deputies followed him onto a rear deck area. During the encounter, a deputy opened fire, killing Williams. Prosecutors later stated that Williams was holding a wallet at the time he was shot. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation conducted an inquiry, and the district attorney later cleared the deputy of criminal wrongdoing. Williams’s family filed a civil lawsuit challenging the circumstances of the shooting.

On January 8, 2021, at approximately 1 p.m., 25-year-old Mark Anthony Johnson was driving a 2007 Dodge pickup truck eastbound on U.S. Highway 190 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Houston. When Woodville Police Department officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Johnson fled, leading to a high-speed pursuit. While attempting to pass another vehicle on the right shoulder, Johnson lost control, causing the truck to skid across both lanes of U.S. 190. The vehicle left the roadway and struck several large trees, resulting in Johnson's death at the scene.
