OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/13/2021, Honolulu police shot and killed 29 year old Lindani Myeni during an encounter outside a residence on Coelho Way. Officers responded to a call reporting a man sitting in a vehicle outside a woman’s home. Officers approached Myeni and attempted to detain him. During the encounter, an officer deployed a Taser, and other officers opened fire. Myeni was struck and died at the scene.
Body camera footage released later showed officers converging on Myeni at close range during the encounter. The Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney reviewed the case and ruled the use of deadly force justified. No officers were charged. Myeni’s family filed a civil wrongful death lawsuit against the City and County of Honolulu. The lawsuit was later dismissed by a judge.
